Healthy food alternatives

First off I want to make it clear that there is nothing wrong with being bigger. For me, health is much more about how I feel than how I look. I try to eat as healthy as I can because it gives me much more energy and because it, in the long run, makes me feel better. Not because I want to look like a Victoria secrets model.

Let’s be honest: we all love a good snack. Some people like crunchy snacks while others like sweet ones. But the fact is that basically all of snack ones in a while. The problem is that a lot of snacks are really unhealthy. That is why I made this list of healthier alternatives to all your favorite snacks.

Swap your favorite candy bar for a granola bar

When you chose a granola bar you have to keep in mind that not all of them are as healthy as they look. Take a look at the ingredients to make sure that there isn’t any refined sugar in them before buying. Some of my favorites are from Naturally Clean Eats. Already when you hear the name of the brand you know that this is a healthy one.

Swap your regular chocolate with Hu kitchen chocolates

I think that we all can agree on the fact that there is nothing better than relaxing with your favorite show on Netflix and a piece of chocolate. Honestly, I don’t think that I would be able to go a day without anything chocolaty. But as we all know chocolate isn’t the healthiest. Unless you buy the right kind of chocolate. You can get these Hu kitchen ones in a ton of different flavors and the best part: they are sweetened with organic coconut sugar. Since it is chocolate it has to be sweetened with something (unless you want 100% dark chocolate and trust me you don’t. I tried it ones and I almost threw up) and coconut sugar is probably the healthiest alternative out there.

Swap Nutella for nut butter

I know that some people say that nut butter isn’t healthy. Well, I am not one of those people. I know that they contain a lot of fat but it is the healthy kind. And it is definitely a lot more healthy than Nutella. If you really want to cut down on the fat you can always go for a powdered version like this one instead.

Swap potato chips with kale chips, seaweed chips or roasted beans

We all know that potato chips isn’t the healthiest but luckily there is a lot of different alternatives. One alternative that I love is roasted beans. Not only are they a good source of protein but they are also super crispy and delicious. I usually make them myself but you can also just buy them. Another alternative that I just discovered recently when I was in the US is kale chips. I am honestly obsessed with these. My favorite ones are the Brad’s crunchy kale Naked ones. Another healthy alternative is seaweed chips. If you are more of a sweets kind of person but you still want something crunchy you can try coconut chips or apple chips.

Swap your white bread for Scandinavian rye bread or Scandinavian crispbread

Bread has had a bad reputation the last couple of years. I didn’t understand why until recently when I was in America. All the shelves with bread at the supermarket was filled with white bread and the Scandinavian kinds that I was used to from home were nowhere to be found. It came as such a big surprise that they didn’t have any of the options that I am used to and the whole statement about bread being unhealthy suddenly made sense to me. Even the rye bread which is supposed to be healthy wasn’t nearly as nutritious as the ones we had at home. So if you want a healthier substitute for your regular white bread you can go for some Scandinavian options. Think Scandinavian rye bread or Scandinavian crispbread. Unfortunately, my favorites ones aren’t available in any international webshop but I have linked them down belove anyways along with some other great alternatives that are available international. But if you are interested in making your own you could try this recipe (I recommend leaving out the syrup, to me it tastes better that way. Also, keep in mind that the Swedish kinds of bread are a lot sweeter than the danish kinds so if you want to go for the healthiest version I will definitely recommend going for the Danish version rather than the Swedish).
